“An original, cinematic, dark tale where fantasy and realism meet in an unexpected way.”

Why this film

“The unexpected clash between fantasy and dark realism is something I am very intrigued by as a filmmaker. A tale where differences are being punished and rejected, and where old age and trauma is being explored. And where a new generation’s ideals can offer remedy. This is the story I am so eager to bring to life in a cinematic, artistic, relevant, emotional,  and  visually unique way.”

— Maja Fernqvist, Director - Above The Sea

“I never knew the origins of the little mermaid, until Maja brought it to my attention. Her mysterious lens on this Scandinavian tale, is both heart wrenching and captivating. This ambitious film will be original, and visually stunning.”

— Rebecca Reagan, Producer - Above The Sea
